India’s popular VJ and host Mini Mathur recently revealed that due to her pregnancy, she was out of work. The channel with which she was associated for years, did not even renew her contract during her pregnancy. She said that a channel did not even allow her to do hosting because she was pregnant. He was told that the Indian audience would not accept the pregnant lady.
Mini Mathur gave the example of West
In a special conversation with Hauterfly, Mini Mathur told that she was very disappointed when she lost her work due to being pregnant. Giving the example of West, he told how Heidi Klum was hosting runway shows even after being pregnant. He said that this is what happens in the West.
Contract not renewed due to pregnancy
Mini Mathur told that when she became pregnant with her first child, it had been five years since she worked with MTV. She told that because she was pregnant, her contract was not renewed. She told, “When Vivaan was pregnant, I had spent 5 years on MTV. My contract was not renewed because VJs never get pregnant. Mini Mathur told that she was told, “You are pregnant. Have fun. May you have a good life.”
Mini Mathur said, “I felt a little bad. I felt that you have created a value for yourself and the channel through your career and skills. But using your pregnancy to oust you was a bit infuriating.”
Did Mini Mathur fight with the channel?
Mini Mathur was asked whether she had raised her voice against this decision taken by the channel? To this Mini Mathur said, “No, because I also have my own dignity. If you value me, you will not let me go. It was a bit disappointing. I did not feel that much at that time.”
Indian Idol hosting also snatched away
During this conversation, Mini Mathur told that not only did she lose the MTV contract but she also lost the hosting of Indian Idol. She said, “I was pregnant with Saira after the fourth season of Indian Idol. We were preparing for season 5, I told the team that I was pregnant. I told that I would be fine in the auditions, but by the finale my baby bump would be visible.” Mini Mathur said that the channel asked her not to host this season because the Indian audience would not be able to accept a pregnant woman (as a host).
