Indian National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started the facility of digital FASTag local pass at 121 toll plazas across the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued an official statement on Tuesday giving this information. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said eligible daily commuters can obtain monthly local passes online through ‘RajmargYatra’ mobile app. This will eliminate the need for personal visits to toll plazas and physical submission of supporting documents.
The facility was first started at Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on UER-II in Delhi.
Let us tell you that the first such digital local pass facility was started in July 2026 at Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi. The initiative aims to make travel on National Highways more convenient and citizen-centric by using technology to increase transparency and efficiency in tolling operations.
Who will benefit?
Under the Digital Local Pass System, people who live within a radius of 20 km of an eligible toll plaza can apply for a local pass through the ‘RajmargYatra’ mobile app. National Highway users https://rajmargyatra.nhai.gov.in/buy-fastag-local-pass You can see the list of eligible toll plazas by visiting. This Monthly Local Pass entitles eligible passengers to avail unlimited journey through the respective toll plaza during the month as per the applicable rules.
Earlier many types of documents had to be given to get local pass.
Earlier, to avail the local pass, local residents had to visit the respective toll plaza and submit documents proving their home address within a 20 km radius and other eligibility conditions. The Digital Local Pass facility uses consent-based integration with government digital platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to capture the passenger’s home address, vehicle details and linked FASTag Such necessary information can be obtained and verified.
Eligibility is also confirmed through GIS-based verification to determine whether the applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20 km radius of an eligible toll plaza.
