The Indian team has gone on Sri Lanka tour without Jasprit Bumrah and obviously the absence of this bowler is going to be missed by Team India. But former Sri Lankan all-rounder Farveez Maharoof believes that in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, young fast bowler Gurnoor Brar can prove to be the ‘X-factor’. According to Maharoof, Brar may get a chance to debut in the Galle Test starting from August 15. Mohammad Siraj is certain to play in this match, while Brar may get a chance in place of Krishna.
Bumrah’s reverse swing will be missed
While talking to Sony Sports Network, Maharoof said, ‘Bumrah Has the ability to reverse swing the ball and India will miss him greatly. I think this is where wicket-taking ability may be lacking. Mohammed Siraj is a good bowler, I respect him, but when you compare these two fast bowlers, there is a slight difference. Maharoof said that Brar’s speed and his extra bounce can prove to be decisive in this match. Maharoof said, ‘In the warm-up match, he looked very upset with the balls he bowled to the batsmen in the Test team and he also hit the balls on the bodies of some players. If I were in the management of Team India, I would definitely think of giving a chance to Gurnoor. He can prove dangerous to break the rhythm of any batsman.
Brar showed his strength in Sri Lanka
Gurnoor Brar has already shown his strength on Sri Lankan soil. This player had taken 10 wickets in the match against Sri Lanka-A. He troubled the opposing batsmen with his pace-bounce. Now if he gets a chance in Galle, he can do it once again. Brar has so far taken 11 wickets in 6 ODI matches for India. In first class cricket, he has taken 62 wickets in 19 matches. These figures show that he has the ability to take wickets and the Indian team would definitely like to take advantage of it.
