On Tuesday, an attacker suddenly attacked near the main gate of the General Headquarters of Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi. One soldier died during the rapid firing, while two security personnel were injured. The security forces killed the attacker on the spot.

It is being told that a heavily armed attacker suddenly attacked the entry checkpoint, after which heavy firing started. Immediately after this incident, the soldiers became alert on the spot and surrounded the entire area. It is being told that the attacker reached near the main gate during the busy time of Tuesday morning and suddenly started firing at the checkpoint. The guards deployed in the security system immediately retaliated. A Pakistan Army soldier was killed on duty during fierce firing from automatic weapons. Two other security personnel were also seriously injured. He was immediately taken to the Military Hospital, where his treatment is ongoing.
It is being told that the security forces killed the attacker on the spot. Due to this he could not succeed in entering inside the GHQ complex. Reports and examination of items recovered at the scene indicate that the attacker was planning a large-scale suicide attack on a high-security military base. He is suspected to have hidden explosive materials, the purpose of which was to carry out a high-impact suicide strike.
Immediately after the incident, elite counter-terrorism units, special forces and regular army troops completely cordoned off the entire GHQ zone and surrounding roads. A large-scale search and sweep operation has been started in Rawalpindi Garrison area. Security agencies are carrying out intensive house-to-house and area searches to detect the presence of possible associates or hidden networks. Additional checkpoints have been set up on the roads, traffic has been completely controlled and citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement.
After the incident, forensic teams reached the spot and are conducting a detailed investigation of the attacker’s body, his clothes and the recovered weapons and other items. Efforts are being made to ascertain his identity, background and possible ideology. Intelligence agencies are also investigating whether the attacker was associated with any organized terrorist group or was working alone. At present the incident site has been sealed and CCTV footage is being examined.
