Once again the market of speculation is hot regarding the health and presence of former Prime Minister of Pakistan and chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan. Unverified news and social media rumors claiming the death of 73-year-old Imran Khan, lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, have created an uproar in Pakistan’s politics.
What did the journalist claim?
The rumors gained momentum when US-based Pakistani journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan made a huge claim on his YouTube channel.
He quoted three senior military officers posted at the Pakistan Army Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi as saying that they feared that “Imran Khan is no longer with us.”
Wajahat said, “Their sources, who are three senior Pakistan Army officers, have said that they fear that former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is dead in jail and hence Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is hiding him from the entire country.”
However, the journalist himself admitted that this is unverified information and no official has seen it with his own eyes, but has expressed apprehensions on the basis of hearsay.
PTI’s allegation and refusal to meet the family
PTI leaders and Imran Khan’s sisters allege that for the last few days they are not being allowed to meet the former PM in jail. The party has demanded that Imran Khan be checked by independent doctors. Family and lawyers should be allowed to meet him immediately.
Earlier in November 2025, there were rumors of Imran Khan’s death in jail. However, on 2 December 2025, his sister Uzma Khanum visited him in Adiala jail and confirmed that he was physically fine, but was being kept in solitary confinement.
‘Islamabad Long March’ and claim of 20 lakh people
Amid growing uncertainty over Imran Khan’s health, PTI has opened a front against Shahbaz Sharif government and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and PTI leader Sohail Afridi has warned that the youth of Pakistan is angry and more than 20 lakh people are ready to take to the streets.

Letter from US lawmakers: Letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
International pressure on the Pakistan government is also increasing. Thirteen bipartisan lawmakers from the US Congress have written a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging him to raise the issue of the jail conditions of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi with Islamabad.
The letter cites warnings from the UN Special Envoy, which drew attention to Imran’s long solitary confinement and health concerns.
