Indian Postal Department has issued bumper recruitment for 23757 posts of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS). 10th pass candidates can apply online from 2 to 21 September 2026.

The Postal Department has announced a bumper recruitment for the posts of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS). Through this recruitment of the year 2026, a total of 23,757 vacant posts will be filled across the country. This vacancy has brought smiles on the faces of 10th pass youth. This is no less than a golden opportunity for the youth who want to live and work in villages and towns.

The official notification of this much-awaited recruitment has been released on 27 August 2026. Any candidate who wants to take advantage of this opportunity will have to take special care of the dates. The application process will start with One Time Registration (OTR), the portal of which will open from August 31, 2026. After this, the actual application process and fee submission work will start from 5 pm on 2nd September. This entire online process will continue till 5 pm on September 21, 2026. If you make any unintentional mistake while filling the form, then there is absolutely no need to panic. The department has fixed September 23 and 24 for correction (correction window).

Through this great recruitment drive, recruitment will be done on three important posts in different postal circles across the country. These include the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. If we look at the state wise vacancies, the biggest opportunity is for the youth of Maharashtra. There is a maximum vacancy of 2,297 posts, which is a big gift especially for those who know Marathi language. Just behind this comes Tamil Nadu, where 2,118 posts are vacant. At the same time, in a big state like Uttar Pradesh, recruitment is to be done on 1,691 posts. Apart from this, appointments will be made on 1,619 posts in West Bengal, 1,450 in Madhya Pradesh, 1,379 in Jharkhand, 1,373 in Kerala, 1,354 in North-Eastern region, 1,353 in Odisha, 1,116 in Karnataka and 1,098 in Bihar. The figure of these 11 big circles alone comes to 16,847.

Now the question arises that who can apply for this? Its eligibility has been kept very simple and easy. As on 21st September 2026, candidates whose age is between 18 to 40 years can apply without any hesitation. According to government rules, reserved categories will also get relaxation in the maximum age limit. Talking about education, it is mandatory to have passed 10th from any recognized board. The only condition is that you must have studied Mathematics and English subjects in 10th. Apart from this, you should have a good command over the local language of the state or circle from which you are filling the form. Considering today’s digital era, it is important to have basic computer knowledge, and yes, knowing how to ride a bicycle is also considered an important condition for this job.

This recruitment is going to give a lot of relief in terms of fees also. If you come from unreserved category (General), OBC (OBC-NCL) or EWS category, then you will have to pay a fee of only Rs 100. At the same time, this form is absolutely free for women, SC, ST and all other reserved categories. After getting the job, you will also get a good salary (TRCA). The starting pay scale for the post of Branch Postmaster (BPM) will range from Rs 12,000 to Rs 29,380. Whereas, for Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak, this slab has been fixed between Rs 10,000 to Rs 24,470.

There will be no written examination

The most special thing about this entire recruitment is its selection process. For this you will not have to give any written examination. Your selection will be directly based on the marks obtained in class 10th. The computer system will generate an absolutely accurate merit list by calculating your numbers up to four decimal places. The lucky ones whose names will appear in this list will be called for document verification. After this there will be a general medical test and then the appointment letter will be handed over. However, selected BPM candidates must note that they will have to arrange space for running the branch post office at their own expense and must reside within the same postal village. ABPM and Dak Sevak are also required to reside within their delivery jurisdiction.
