Now regarding this outfit, Urvashi said, ‘I keep my country with me not just as a nationality but as a part of my identity. I wanted to wear something that not only reflected where I came from but also what India meant to me. This special design was created with this thought in mind.

Urvashi again said that it took 3 months to make this gown. It was not easy to add 3 colors to one dress. It was about transforming national sentiment into artistic expression.
Urvashi said the gown is not an exact copy of the national flag.
Let us tell you that while many people liked this outfit of Urvashi, some opposed it, pointing out that half of the tricolor color was coming in the lower body of the actress and the trail of the dress was visible on the ground below. On this Urvashi said, ‘There are many visible differences between the tricolor and the gown. The most important thing is that this gown is not an exact copy of the national flag. It is a ‘couture’ (exclusive design) using elements inspired by the Tricolour.
Urvashi further said, ‘The differences in color shade, orientation, material and especially the marks in the middle are quite large and have been done deliberately to create a special effect on the theater stage in colored lights. The gown is a theatrical, high-fashion tribute, using three colors and a central motif like the chakra.’

Let us tell you that the rules for hoisting and using the Indian National Flag are decided under the ‘Flag Code of India, 2002’ and ‘Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971’. A national flag should never touch the ground or trail water. Under the 1971 Act, using the national flag as a garment, uniform or accessory worn below the waist, or embroidering or printing it on clothing material, constitutes disrespect to the flag. Publicly insulting or disrespecting the national flag can lead to a jail term of up to 3 years, a fine or both.
