The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain and issued red and orange alerts for many states. However, no holiday has been announced at the central or state level for August 20. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Due to continuous rain in the hilly states, there is a possibility of deteriorating road condition and landslides. The district administration is reviewing the situation, and if the situation worsens in any area, then at the local level the District Magistrate DM can issue orders for holidays.
Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh: There have been reports of water logging on roads due to heavy rains in Delhi and surrounding areas. At present, holidays have not been announced simultaneously for the entire state in Delhi-NCR, but private and government schools can issue orders at their level.
Jammu and Kashmir: There is a possibility of disruption in traffic due to rain and landslides in valley and hilly areas. The local administration is monitoring the situation and may declare holidays for the safety of children in danger areas.
Odisha and Maharashtra: Due to water logging in coastal and flood affected low-lying areas, local authorities have been given powers to take decisions as per the situation.
Why do officials decide to close schools?
The administration gives priority to the safety of children and teachers. When roads are closed due to waterlogging, rivers are in spate, there is danger of lightning or lightning, or it becomes unsafe for buses to ply, then the decision to close schools is taken as a precautionary measure.
