Varanasi Brijesh Ganjhu encounter: UP ATS and Ramnagar Police have encountered notorious Naxalite Brijesh Ganjhu alias Gopal Singh Bhokta in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. There was an encounter between the police and Naxalite Brijesh Ganjhu alias Gopal Singh Bhokta on Sunday morning in Ramnagar police station area. According to the police, Brijesh was shot during the firing. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. A reward of Rs 30 lakh was announced on Brijesh by the Jharkhand government and NIA.
According to the police, in the early morning of 20 September 2026, Brijesh Ganjhu along with one of his companions was going from Tengra Mod towards Mughalsarai on a motorcycle. Meanwhile, based on the information received from the informer, the team of UP ATS and Ramnagar Police tried to stop him near Lanka Maidan of Ramnagar police station area.
Police claim that the team tried to arrest Brijesh, but instead of stopping, he jumped off the bike and started firing at the policemen. After this, retaliatory action was also taken by the police.
Bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of policemen
According to the police, during the encounter, the bulletproof jackets of UP ATS Deputy SP Vipin Rai and Head Constable Nitendra Krishna were hit by the firing done by Brijesh Ganjhu. Both the policemen are said to be safe.
Brijesh Ganjhu got shot in retaliatory firing. After this, the police team immediately took him to the hospital, but after examination the doctors declared him dead.
The reward was Rs 30 lakh
Brijesh Ganjhu alias Gopal Singh Bhokta is said to be a resident of Chatra district of Jharkhand. According to the police, he was the commander of the banned Naxalite organization Third Presentation Committee (TPC).
A reward of Rs 25 lakh was announced on him by the Jharkhand government and Rs 5 lakh by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In this way, there was a total reward of Rs 30 lakh on Brijesh.
After the encounter, the police have started collecting evidence related to the incident site. Further legal action is being taken in the matter.
