Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan said on Monday that reservation cannot be abolished on the basis of caste, as it is a constitutional right. He said that as long as he is part of the government, no force can weaken the system. Paswan said, is reservation something that can be abolished just by someone’s saying? This is a constitutional right. Reservation is not a donation given to anyone; It is a constitutional right, and no power in the world can abolish it and those who think of abolishing it, whether through review or reform, perhaps do not understand why reservation is necessary?
According to ANI report Chirag Paswan Said that people still easily question why they need reservation, while discrimination on the basis of caste continues in the society. Referring to the recent controversy surrounding Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, he asked whether the stage was “cleansed” after his departure.
He also cited cases where Dalit grooms are prevented from taking out wedding processions, and where temple premises are washed with “Ganga water” after the arrival of senior leaders, as evidence that untouchability still exists.
Discrimination against scheduled castes is still happening today
He said the ‘Scheduled Castes’ were listed that way in the Constitution because of untouchability — they were forced to live outside the village. Leave alone touching them, even looking at them was considered a sin. Doesn’t this discrimination exist even today?”

Paswan said that this is the reason why he opposed the concept of “creamy layer” within reservation.Thh done. He said, “Today, at least we are united and can voice our concerns, but as soon as sub-classification and ‘creamy layer’ come into discussion, our collective strength will start reducing and as our strength reduces, those who want to end reservations will gain momentum.
Warning on trying to end reservation
He said that Scheduled Tribes were communities with different clothes, lifestyles and dialects, described as “scheduled”, while Backward Classes were those who did not have opportunities and were helped by the reservation system.
He also said that the Modi government had started 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker people in the upper castes. He said, “This system was built on the basis of the vision of Babasaheb (BR Ambedkar), and no power in the world will be allowed to weaken it. As long as I, Ram Vilas Paswan’s son, am part of this government, I will not allow this system to be compromised.”
