On August 19, a day before meeting Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, Shinjiro Koizumi visited the Western Naval Command in Mumbai. Here he met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsyayan.

The Japanese Defense Minister was given information about the responsibilities of the Indian Navy and its military capability. He also took the salute of the Indian Navy soldiers. After this he paid floral tributes at the Gaurav Stambh located in the Naval Dockyard and visited the Indian-built warship INS Chennai.
