Lunar Eclipse on Raksha Bandhan: Will the time of tying Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan change due to lunar eclipse? Know the rules

Raksha Bandhan Eclipse Guide: It is considered natural for there to be a change in the method and time of worship when there is a lunar eclipse on the holy festival of Rakshabandhan. According to religious beliefs, the influence of negative energy in the universe increases at the time of eclipse. For this reason, any kind of auspicious work, worship and rituals are considered prohibited. The festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on Friday, 28th August. If an eclipse occurs on the day of Rakshabandhan, then the tradition of tying Rakhi is postponed during the eclipse period and its Sutak period. It is said in the scriptures that it is very important to follow the rules at the time of eclipse. Only worship done keeping in mind the right time and right method provides complete results.

Impact of Sutak period and the doors of temples

During the Sutak period that occurs before the eclipse, the doors of the temples are completely closed. During Sutak period, worshiping gods and touching idols becomes prohibited. In such a situation, the main change in the normal worship method of Rakshabandhan is that the work of tying Rakhi is done even before the start of Sutak. No auspicious work of any kind is done during Sutak period. According to the scriptures, it is right to meditate on God in your mind at this time. If Rakhi is not tied before the beginning of Sutak period, then one has to wait till the eclipse ends. It is considered very important for every devotee to follow these rules made during the Sutak period.

Rules on not being visible in India

If the eclipse falling on the day of Rakshabandhan is not visible in India, then its Sutak period is not valid. In such a situation, there is no need to make any changes in the method of worship. You can perform the puja and tie Rakhi at the right time as per your normal tradition, but if the eclipse is completely visible in India, then it becomes mandatory to follow the rules. During a non-visible eclipse, all religious activities can be performed like a normal day. It is very important to keep in mind whether the eclipse is visible in your area or not. According to the Panchang, the puja should be performed only after taking a decision. This time the effect of lunar eclipse will not be seen in India.

Rule of purification and tying Rakhi after the eclipse ends

In the event of a visible eclipse, after the eclipse ends, the first thing that is done is to purify the temple of the house. Ganga water is sprinkled in the entire house and the Gods and Goddesses are bathed. After this, there is a ritual of taking bath, donating and worshiping God. Only after purifying the house and the temple, at an auspicious time, the sister ties Raksha Sutra to her brother. Bathing and donating after the eclipse is considered very auspicious. In this way, worship done with correct method and rules brings purity in the house. By following this method given in the scriptures, there remains happiness in the lives of both brother and sister and all the work is completed without any hindrance.
