After the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG paper leak, efforts for major changes have started in the National Testing Agency (NTA). After the cancellation of papers of three subjects of UGC NET June 2026, the Education Ministry has intensified the exercise of changes in NTA. In this series, the Union Education Ministry has decided to appoint new subject experts to prepare the paper. However, appointment of subject expert for NTA is very challenging in many ways. In such a situation, NTA has decided to complete the appointment process of subject experts in 4 stages of screening.

Subject experts will be included in NTA panel

NTA is going to appoint subject experts to prepare papers for various entrance exams. This appointment is to be made on a temporary basis, but the subject experts to be appointed will be included in the panel of NTA, who will play their role in preparing the paper.

Teachers will also have to submit NOC along with the application.

NTA has started preparations for the appointment of subject experts. According to a report in the English newspaper HT, teachers from across the country can apply for subject expert. Applying teachers will have to submit their educational and employment records, identity documents, conflict-of-interest and confidentiality declarations, and a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from their current employer.

Screening will be done in 4 phases

Verification of documents and eligibility: In the first phase of screening, the applications of teachers applying to become subject experts will be scrutinized, under which their documents and educational qualifications will be examined.

Subject related evaluation: Applicants who are successful in the first phase of screening will be evaluated in the second phase of screening, under which they will be evaluated on the basis of their educational status, research record, previous experience in preparing examination papers and overall expertise in the subject. This evaluation will be done by subject-expert committees constituted by NTA.

Background Verification: Teachers applying for the third phase of screening will be subjected to a detailed background check, under which their background will be checked on aspects like educational qualification, job history, conflict-of-interest etc.

The formal panel will be prepared: Applicants who are successful in all three stages of screening will be formally included in the panel under the fourth stage of screening. This panel will be valid for three years. During this period, the performance of the subject expert should remain satisfactory and honest. During this period, if any subject expert violates the conditions, there is a provision to remove him from the panel by giving notice.

Payment up to Rs 40 thousand

NTA conducts 10 entrance exams in one admission session. All papers are prepared by the subject experts of NTA. NTA takes services in this regard from the subject experts included in its panel for 15 days in a year, in return for which it pays them Rs 35000 to 40000.
