Who is Syed Aamir Raza
Before his promotion to Strategic Command, General Raza was serving as the Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army. This is one of its most important appointments. In this role, Raza supervised the implementation of organizational changes following the 27th Amendment. Apart from this, he also did the restructuring of the army after the conflict with India last year. He was also involved in creating the Army Rocket Force Command. A cavalry officer, Raza was commissioned into the 6th Lancers in 1988 after undergoing training at the Officers Training School. During his career, he has held many important command positions in the Pakistan Army. He has commanded an armored regiment, an armored brigade, an infantry brigade in South Waziristan, an infantry division and the Lahore-based IV Corps.
Many senior officers were left behind
Even though in his new role Raza is monitoring Pakistan’s strategic military forces. But for a long time their role has been conventional military operations and military deployment. In such a situation, his promotion is being considered very important. When Raza was promoted to four-star general and appointed as CNSC, he was eighth in the army seniority list of lieutenant general. His promotion supersedes several senior officers, including Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Lieutenant General Faiyaz Hussain Shah, Lieutenant General Nauman Zakaria, Lieutenant General Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Lieutenant General Ahsan Gulrez and Lieutenant General Shahid Imtiaz.
