YouTube New Rules: Nowadays, YouTube is no longer just a medium for watching videos, rather it has become a big and important means of earning for millions of people. Many youth are starting their career as content creators. But if you are also dreaming of earning money by creating a YouTube channel, then now you will have to double your hard work. Video streaming platform YouTube has announced major changes in the policies of its Partner Program (YPP). After the implementation of these new rules, starting to earn from the platform is going to prove to be a big challenge for new creators. According to the company, this new and strict policy of monetization will be fully implemented from February 1, 2027.
Doubled monetization terms
To start earning from YouTube, monetizing the channel is the first and most important step. Till now, new creators had to complete 4,000 hours of watch hours within a year to start earning from ads and YouTube Premium on their channel. But under the new policy this criteria has been doubled. From February 1, 2027, new channels will have to touch the figure of 8,000 watch hours to cross the earning threshold. At the same time, the target has also been increased for those making short videos. Earlier, there was a requirement of 1 crore shorts views in 90 days, now it has been increased to 2 crore views.
Existing creators need not fear
The news of this big change is bound to raise questions in the minds of those creators who are already earning money from YouTube. However, the company has made the situation absolutely clear. This new rule will not affect those YouTubers who are currently part of the YouTube Partner Program. This new policy has been brought only for those who are preparing to join this program in future. This means that those who are already in the system, their earnings will continue without any interruption.
Strict rules for shorts creators
The company has also added a new condition for those earning money through short videos. According to the new rules, if you want to continue sharing advertising and subscription revenue from Shorts, you will have to prove that your channel is getting 1 crore views every 90 days. If a creator misses this target, he will not be kicked out of the Partner Program, but his earnings will be stopped until he crosses the 10 million views mark again. However, giving relief to those with low views, the company has also introduced YouTube shopping bonuses, brand deals and some new earning options for those starting new trends.
The matter will not be resolved just by views
The rules of earning in the digital world are now changing very fast. Not only YouTube, but giant social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook are also bringing changes in their creator economy. Recently, X has started giving more importance to original content in its payout system, while Facebook has also launched its new monetization program for creators. All these changes simply mean that now it will not be possible to survive only on the basis of views. In the coming times, new creators will have to have a strong connect with the audience and focus entirely on original content, only then they will be able to survive in this changing digital world.
