The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 places in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam. The search was conducted in connection with the investigation into a cross-border terrorist conspiracy, which involves handlers based in Pakistan and a network of local ‘over ground workers’ (OGWs). These OGWs allegedly provided logistical and other support to the infiltrating terrorists. The objective of the search was to collect further documentary, digital and physical evidence related to the conspiracy and to find out the role of people associated with the local support network.
This case is related to FIR number 0024/2026 of Jakura Police Station, Srinagar. Later the NIA re-registered it as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under Section 23 of the UA (P) Act, 1967, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
Arrest of an OGW associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba
This case started after the arrest of an OGW associated with the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) at a Naka point late night on 31 March 2026. A hand grenade and live cartridges were recovered from him. During the investigation, Pakistani terrorists associated with the conspiracy were arrested and the identities of members of the local support network and their alleged roles were also ascertained.
Relationship between the handler and the local sitting in Pakistan
The investigation so far has revealed alleged links between the handler sitting in Pakistan and local associates. These associates were allegedly being used for negotiations, logistical arrangements, movement of terrorists and for hiding, sheltering, recceing and other types of help. The investigation is also examining the money transactions, methods of communication, movement of the accused and the source of weapons and explosives to find out the entire network and the scope of its activities.
Investigation of support system promoting terrorism
The search conducted on Saturday is part of the ongoing investigation into the larger conspiracy and alleged support system that perpetuates cross-border terrorism. More evidence related to the investigation has been collected and is being examined, as well as being combined with other things collected in the case. NIA is continuing its investigation to identify all the people involved in this conspiracy and find out their role. Based on the results of the investigation, further legal action may be taken, which may include arrest or seizure.
