The advertisement of ‘Vimal Elaichi’ has cost Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgan and Tiger Shroff a lot. Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has sent show cause notices to all three actors.
Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent a show cause notice to Tiger Shroff, Ajay Devgan and Shahrukh Khan in the ‘Vimal Cardamom’ advertisement case. FDA believes that Vimal Cardamom advertisement is a surrogate advertisement for pan masala banned in the state. Actors have been given 15 days to respond to this notice. There is no official statement yet from Shahrukh Khan or any actor regarding this, but years ago Shahrukh had said in an interview that if the government feels that a product is not good for the society, then it should be banned.
What did Shahrukh say about doing such advertisements years ago?
In an years-old interview, journalist Karan Thapar had told Shahrukh Khan that the Health Minister, specifically taking the name of you and others, has said that celebrities like you should not advertise soft drinks, because they are not good for health and children start drinking them after seeing you.
Talking about this, Shahrukh Khan had replied – I would like to tell any authority that you should ban it, do not allow it to be sold in the country. If cigarettes are bad, stop making cigarettes. If you think soft drinks are bad, don’t make them. What I am saying is that you are not stopping production because it brings revenue. So don’t stop my revenue also. I am an actor, I have to work and earn from it. Obviously, if you think something is wrong, stop making it.
What is the whole matter of FDA notice?
Talking about the notice, FDA has given 15 days time to the three stars to prove that Vimal Cardamom is indeed a separate product or it is a surrogate or brand-extension ad designed to promote Vimal Pan Masala and tobacco banned in the state.
What did the FDA say in the notice?
FDA has sought information from the three stars about all the TV channels, digital and social media platforms where these ads have been telecast or published. Actors will also have to inform the FDA about the date and time of this ad. Actors will also have to tell the FDA what kind of commercial or legal agreement has been made between them and the brand owner.
Reply will have to be given within 15 days
It has been made clear in the notice that the actors will have to submit written answers and necessary documents within 15 days. According to reports, if the actors fail to do so, they may have to pay a fine of lakhs. Also, legal action can also be taken against the actors. No official statement has come out from the three actors yet. But Shahrukh Khan has talked about this once before.
