Depending on the budget and availability of funds, a total of 125 new students are selected every year under this scholarship.
As per the guidelines applicable for the academic year 2026-27, this scholarship is primarily for Scheduled Castes, Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisans. - 115 seats have been kept especially for Scheduled Caste candidates.
- 6 seats are for students from Vimukt, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic tribes.
- 4 seats have been earmarked for children of landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisans.
Apart from this, the most beautiful thing about this scheme is that in every election year, 30 percent of the total seats have been reserved for our daughters i.e. women candidates. This step encourages women to come forward for higher education and fulfill their dreams.
How do I get scholarship money?
Now this question must be coming in your mind that how does one get the money for this? Does all the money go directly into the student’s bank account? The answer is- no. The government has made this entire process very transparent and easy. The ministry does not give scholarship money directly to the students. Instead, these funds are released to Indian missions or embassies located abroad.
From there this money is paid directly as tuition fees to the foreign university where the student has been admitted. Besides, the maintenance allowance and other necessary expenses for accommodation there are also sent to the students or the university through the embassy. With this, students get complete freedom from the hassle of money transactions abroad and they are able to focus only on their studies without any tension.
