If you are looking for a smartwatch with long battery life, then you may like Xiaomi’s new watch. Xiaomi has launched Redmi Watch 6 Active/Vitality Edition smartwatch in China. It is priced at 349 Yuan (~$52 i.e. around Rs 5,000) and features an AMOLED display, health and fitness tracking features as well as a large battery that can last up to 18 days on a single charge. Apart from this, many health tracking features are available in the watch, which keep a close watch on the health of the user. Let us know in detail why Xiaomi’s watch is special…
Features of Redmi Watch 6 Active
The watch features a 1.85-inch AMOLED display with 390×450 pixel resolution, which is square shaped. The peak brightness of the screen reaches 1200 nits, providing good visibility even in bright sunlight outside. It also includes a color always-on display (AOD) option, which lets users see the time and basic notifications without raising their wrist or tapping on the screen.
Talking about design, this watch is quite lightweight, its weight is only 26 grams and thickness is 9.9 mm. The edges of its middle frame are flat and there is a button on the side to navigate the interface, while the screen has 2.5D curved glass. Quick-release mechanism has been used for the strap of this watch and it has been launched in three colors – silver, pink-orange and black.
This special mode will last for 18 days
The watch is equipped with a 470mAh battery. Xiaomi says that if users use battery-saver mode then it can last up to 18 days, although in normal daily use it will last for about 12 days. If you turn on Always On Display and keep regular health tracking activated, the estimated battery life is reduced by about six days.
Calling will be done on the go
As for connectivity, this watch has an in-built microphone for making calls over Bluetooth and it supports quick text replies, so that you don’t have to take out your phone to give short replies. It will also support QR-code offline payments for WeChat Pay and Alipay. However, the company says that this payment feature will not be available at launch; It will be sent to the Watch via a software update later in September.
Lots of fitness tracking features in the watch
In terms of fitness, the watch tracks over 140 different types of exercises and automatically recognizes some common workouts. It monitors heart rate, blood oxygen level, sleep and stress, and can also send alerts to the user immediately if the heart rate is abnormal or blood oxygen is low. It also works with iOS devices, and users can sync their workout data directly to Apple Health and use the watch as a remote for their iPhone’s camera.
Along with China, the watch is being launched in several major global markets. It is currently available in the Philippines for PHP 2,599 (roughly Rs. 4,000) and can also be purchased in the US via Amazon. At present the company has not given any information about whether it will be launched in India or not.
