Agra MP-MLA Court Dismisses Petition Seeking Kangana Ranaut’s Personal Appearance in Farmers’ Remark Case
Agra, Uttar Pradesh: BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has received significant relief from the Agra MP-MLA Court. On Tuesday, the court dismissed a petition that sought to summon Kangana Ranaut to record her personal statement in a criminal case filed against her. The matter has now been scheduled for its next hearing on September 5, 2026.
Court Rejects Petition to Record Kangana’s Statement
The hearing took place before the court of MP-MLA Judge Anuj Kumar Singh. The complainant’s legal team had filed an application on June 6, arguing that the New Agra Police had recorded statements from the complainant and other witnesses but had failed to record Kangana Ranaut’s statement during the investigation.
Instead, the police recorded the statement of her lawyer, Ansuya Chaudhary, and submitted the investigation report. The complainant claimed the investigation was incomplete and requested the court to summon Kangana personally for questioning.
Court Finds No Legal Provision for Summoning the Accused
The complainant’s counsel argued that an advocate cannot give a statement on behalf of a party in place of the accused.
However, the court observed that the provisions under Section 225 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), as well as Sections 223 to 226 under Chapter 16 of the BNSS, do not contain any provision allowing the court to summon the opposite party solely for recording a statement during these proceedings.
The court also noted that Kangana Ranaut’s legal representative had already appeared before the court to present her side. Based on these legal provisions, the petition seeking her personal appearance was dismissed.
Complainant Plans to Challenge the Order
Following the court’s decision, the complainant’s legal team announced that they would file a revision petition before the Sessions Court, challenging the order rejecting their application.
Background of the Case
The case was filed on September 11, 2024, by Ramashankar Sharma, President of the Rajiv Gandhi Bar Association and a senior advocate.
According to the complaint, Kangana Ranaut allegedly made derogatory remarks about farmers during a public statement on August 26, 2024. The complaint also accused her of making objectionable comments regarding Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
The case remains pending, and the next hearing has been scheduled for September 5, 2026.
