The US Congress has passed a bill to impose 100 percent tariff on countries purchasing oil from Russia and Iran. This bill, named Lindsay O’Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, was passed in the House of Representatives on September 16 by 262-159 votes. The Senate has already passed it.
This law will come into effect as soon as President Donald Trump signs the bill. India and China will have to suffer more losses due to this. Anyway, President Trump is upset with the BRICS summit held in Delhi. That’s why they will stick around. From his actions it seems that Trump wants to take America back to the Cold War days. But this is their illusion. Because the world no longer rests only on axes like the Soviet Union and the USA. Today’s world is multi polar.
The white community is worried about the rise of the brown community.
In fact, imposing restrictions on the oil of Russia and Iran is just an excuse. The truth is that USA, Canada, England, Sweden. The increasing number of brown (South Asian) people in white majority countries like Netherlands, France, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Australia etc. is troubling them.
Apart from this, there are many people from China also in these countries. All of them are skilled in their respective works and are also more prosperous than the white community. Due to this, people of the white community sometimes express their ethnic identity, sometimes their religious identity and sometimes their apartheid policies. When these white people were in need, they lured South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepali and Sri Lankan) people for cheap labour. But when these people started claiming their rights over the resources with their knowledge, intelligence and skills, they started getting worried.
Indian community is well-respected in America
Currently, due to the increase of Muslim population in Sweden and their lopsided voting, the party with centre-to-left ideas has defeated Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of the ruling right-wing party by a small margin. Due to this, people are getting angry against the migrant Muslim community there. Similarly, recently, seeing the crowd of Indians at a festival in America, white Americans started expressing their hatred.
He says that Indians are changing the social demography inside America. It is true that there are a large number of expatriate Indians in the USA. He has a strong hold on hotels, departmental stores, gas stations (petrol pumps), transport industry. Apart from this, technical and computer experts from India have become popular there. Because Indian institutes provide better and cheaper education. But one cannot get a good job here. That’s why they travel to America.

Atul Arora, a computer engineer living in Philadelphia, says that the population of people of Indian origin in America was about 1.8 million in 2000, which will increase to about 5.2 million in 2023 (an increase of about 174 percent). Indian expatriates are around 32 lakh.
That is, they are the second largest foreign-born group after the Mexican group. They constitute just over one percent of the total US population, but their influence is more visible in some sectors (California, Texas, New Jersey, New York) and especially in tech, healthcare, pharma and higher education. They are more educated than average (about 77–82 percent have a bachelor’s degree or higher) and are high- and middle-income people.
Settlement of Little India
This has a positive impact on the local economy and tax base. Areas like Little India are growing in some suburbs, where cultural change is felt, but the impact on overall national demography is small. People in distress from Gulf countries are not going to America. Most Indians going to America are high-skilled. Those who have reached there through H-1B visa, student visa or family route.
On the other hand, many Indian professionals are also returning to India from America due to visa uncertainty. Americans often mistake or confuse South Asian immigrants with Indians. Similarly, in America the word Asian is mostly used for East/Southeast Asia (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese etc.). South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans etc.) are often called Indians.
Whites consider all browns to be Indians.
This also happens because the ethnic and cultural identity of this community is similar. Many non-Indian South Asians dislike it. Indians themselves often avoid South Asian addresses. They want to maintain their own separate civilizational identity. Some Pakistani/Nepali and Bangladeshi restaurants and shops in less populated areas write “Hilayan Restaurant”. This creates confusion that these are all Indian.
For example, there you will often find restaurants named Lucknow Cuisine or Banaras Cuisine. But they may be run by Pakistanis or Bangladeshis. Perhaps this is the reason why according to Pew Research data, the favorable opinion towards India in America was 51 percent in 2023. It is now around 45 percent in 2026.
Indians are not yet in a position to change the demography of USA
Senior journalist Satish Jha, former editor of Times of India’s magazine Dinmaan, is currently settled in Boston, USA, and has also written many best-selling books there. He says that Indians are not yet in a position to disturb the demographic balance of America. But their social impact is much larger than proportion. Indians are now the second largest foreign-born community in America after Mexico. Between 2010 and 2024, their number increased by approximately 78 percent.
Jha says, the reason for this effect is not just population. Indian doctors, engineers, scientists, professors, entrepreneurs and investors are present in the institutions where America’s next generation is being shaped. In New Jersey, California, Texas, Massachusetts and parts of Georgia, Indians have changed the face of schools, businesses, religious institutions and even local politics.
But the happiness and sorrow of all Indians are not equal.
Diwali is no longer just an indoor festival. Indian food, music, yoga, temples and languages have started appearing in American life. Still, it would be wrong to consider the Indian community as a single prosperous and successful class. An engineer from Silicon Valley, a doctor from New Jersey, a hotel owner from Texas, a university student, a family running a shop and a person who came without valid documents, their world is not the same.
Indians are changing America, but they themselves are changing America by coming to it. So the correct answer is: Indians are not yet changing America’s entire demographics, but they are profoundly changing its professional, educational, suburban, and cultural makeup. Yet criticism toward India remains high among young Americans and some political groups (on issues such as Hindu nationalism, trade policies, or relations with China).
Indians are a peaceful community
According to Charan Singh, an Indian-origin entrepreneur from New Jersey, America has always been made up of immigrants. Like the Irish, Italian, Mexican and Chinese communities, the Indian community is now a new chapter in the same story of American society. Every community is impacted. But this community is mostly peaceful, law abiding, educated and maintains harmony with everyone. I believe that this class has a greater influence in the progress of the USA than its population, especially in all the fields of technology, medicine, education. The population of the Indian community here is 32 lakh and Pakistanis are between 7 to 8 lakh. Since the appearance and height of both are similar, such people are easily considered as Indians or Hindus.
