Selling pressure was once again seen in the Indian stock market on Tuesday, August 11. After trading with ups and downs throughout the day, Sensex and Nifty closed with losses. Weakness in realty, FMCG and metal shares spoiled the mood of the market. However, buying in pharma and IT stocks managed to stem the decline to some extent.
At the end of trading, Sensex fell 388.19 points or 0.49 percent and closed at 78,154.25. At the same time, Nifty fell by 112.10 points or 0.46 percent and reached 24,471.70. The decline in the market can also be gauged from the fact that about 2,152 shares closed in the decline, while 1,977 shares closed in the rise. There was no change in 187 shares.
Tata Consumer and Max Healthcare declined the most
Among Nifty 50 stocks, Tata Consumer Products fell by around 2.85 per cent, while Max Healthcare fell by 2.77 per cent. UltraTech Cement fell 2.23 percent. Weakness of about 2.09 percent was also seen in Nestle and Grasim.
Doctor Reddy took a leap, Pharma took over the market
Despite the fall, good buying was seen in some shares. Dr Reddy’s Labs was the biggest gainer, rising about 4.06 per cent. A rise of 2.03 percent was recorded in Eternal, 0.68 percent in TCS, 0.55 percent in Titan Company and 0.40 percent in Infosys. Sectoral performance was also mixed. Nifty Infra closed down by 0.8 per cent, Private Bank by 0.6 per cent, Auto by 0.5 per cent and Bank by 0.4 per cent.
